Testing

I want to write about what it means
to be a woman
today

Probably it's not so different
from being a woman
living under the rule of
Pharaoh
Caesar
Emperor
Fuhrer

We grow up learning
to fight for ourselves
the myth of the valiant savior
makes us laugh
neither God nor Man
has ever saved us

Our bodies are seen
as trophies
prizes for the conquering heroes
Our children are fodder
for the machinations of
God and Man

Whether we have found
our voices or not
we are still property
struggling to protect ourselves
from a terrible strength we lack

Whether we are paid for
our work or not
we still do more work
than the men who
posess more power
more rights than we do

In the end being a woman
today means just what it did
under Pharaoh, Caesar, Fuhrer.

There is always too much
worry and pain to go around
and not enough of us.
